Details
Nuno Maya lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal and has exhibited his work in more than 25 countries, exploring different artistic areas from which we highlight photography, video and light.
He exhibited in Casa de Serralves (BES Revelação Award 2006), Calouste Gulbenkian Museum (Res Publica 2011), ARCO MAdrid, Arte Lisboa and multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites as the Royal Exhibition Building (Melbourne, Australia), Alcobaça Monastery (Portugal), Cristo Convent (Tomar, Portugal), Belém Tower (Lisbon, Portugal) and the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, for the celebration of the International Year of Light 2015.
Most of his creations are site specific and developed for public space but he has also exhibited in art galleries and museums and is represented in national and international collections such as Fundació Foto Colectania (Spain), La colección Permanente del CGAC Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea (Spain), BES art_Colecção Banco Espírito Santo (Portugal) e Fundação PLMJ (Portugal).
Co-founder and artistic director of LUMINA Light Festival, awarded Best Cultural Event by Beaworld and considered a TOP 10 European Light Festival by the british journal The Guardian. With one edition in Sintra and six in Cascais it counts more than 1 million visitors in the total seven editions.
In parallel to his solo career he his co-founder and creative director at OCUBO studio, managing several cultural projects such as Magical Garden (Lisbon and Porto), Immersivus Gallery (Lisbon, Porto, Algarve), Lisbon Under Stars and Lisbon Legends (Carmo Ruins, Lisbon), Porto Legends (Porto Customs House) and other artistic light installations around the world.
